The Polini 140.0241 Ø72 mm cylinder kit has been developed as a new performance configuration for Vespa 200 PX / PE and Cosa 2T, designed to provide increased torque, power and top-end performance while maintaining strength and reliability.
The cylinder kit is designed to work in combination with the new Polini 60 mm stroke crankshaft with 127 mm long connecting rod, sold separately. Combining the 72 mm bore with a 60 mm stroke results in a total displacement of 244cc.
Ø72 mm cast iron cylinder
Polini selected cast iron for the cylinder to provide strength and operating stability. The transfer ports and exhaust port geometry have been completely redesigned to optimise gas flow.
The configuration is designed to provide a broad power delivery, with a strong response at low and medium engine speeds together with good top-end performance.
Ø72 mm piston
Special attention has also been paid to the Ø72 mm piston, developed around the particular geometry of the Vespa PE engine, where the thrust axis is not symmetrical in relation to the intake and exhaust ports.
The piston features:
- 2 x 1 mm piston rings
- Chrome-plated Japanese steel rings
- Specific reinforcing ribs

The reinforcing ribs increase structural rigidity while keeping the component weight low.
8-bolt cylinder head with copper gasket
The cylinder head uses eight mounting bolts, cylinder centring and a copper head gasket.
These solutions are designed to provide stable coupling, effective sealing and efficient heat exchange.
The cylinder also incorporates a bypass hole designed to reduce the effort required during starting and make the engine easier to start.
244cc – 60 mm stroke configuration
To obtain the complete 244cc configuration, the cylinder kit is designed to be combined with the new Polini 60 mm stroke crankshaft with 127 mm connecting rod, sold separately.
IMPORTANT: the new Polini crankshaft required for this configuration is not compatible with the original Vespa clutch.
Its splined profile is designed for the Polini clutch hub part number 230.0506, allowing it to be combined with the Polini HT Clutch. This solution has been developed to provide stable engagement and effective transmission of the increased engine torque.
Tested at the 24h of Zuera
The new components were used at the 24h of Zuera together with other Polini components already available in the range, including Polini engine cases, creating an engine assembled entirely with Polini components.
The Vespa entered by the Spanish Castrol team achieved a class victory after 24 hours of racing, providing a particularly demanding test for the complete configuration.
The cylinder kit can be installed on suitably prepared original or aftermarket engine cases. Combining it with Polini engine cases can further enhance the filling and overall efficiency characteristics of the engine.

Important installation information
To obtain the 244cc Ø72 x 60 mm stroke configuration, the kit is designed to be used with the dedicated Polini 60 mm stroke / 127 mm connecting rod crankshaft, sold separately.
With the new Polini crankshaft, the original Vespa clutch is not compatible. The splined profile is designed for the Polini 230.0506 clutch hub and Polini HT Clutch.
